Work experience
BARNARDO'S - PENNYWELL, SUNDERLAND - SR4 9AS
29th June 2017 - 5th September 2017
I volunteered at Barnardo's in hopes of gaining valuable works experience over the summer holidays. I was taught how to work a till, package products appropriately, tag items, take down names and addresses for reference (donations), all the while engaging the customer in a friendly manner. Furthermore, I was made well aware of business practice in retail and how managers like to send shadow customers in stores, in order to hold members to account. As a junior member of the team however, I was guided by senior staff members on how to handle returns, lack of money in the cashier and working a tombola. As a result, I have grown more confident in a working environment and feel I would perform just as well in a paying job.
PROJECT 100 - A CLEAN SWEEP - CITY OF SUNDERLAND
18th October 2017 - 20th October 2017
This project involved 100 clean-up projects across the City of Sunderland over a three-day period, including: painting shutters, renovation and painting of Park Lane Market, weeding, litter picking and general tidy up. Referenced by Ellen Thinnesen, Principle and Chief Executive of Sunderland College.
SUNDERLAND MUSEUM & WINTER GARDENS
30th November 2017 - 2nd December 2017
As part of work placement required during my 2nd year of BTEC Media course, I was given the option to work alongside the staff at Sunderland Museum as part of their “Twitter Takeover”. This placement was available for up to three students, and it enabled myself to gain first-hand experience in the social media handling department side of business. Not only did I draft and post on the official Sunderland Museum pages on Twitter and Facebook, but I also had a hand in helping organize events behind the scenes and actively participating and promoting such events. Santa’s Garden Grotto and Jack’s Beanstalk Trail were among the events I helped promote and plan. I received positive feedback for my part from my mentor, Jennie Lambert, who is listed in my references (along with Victoria Moyse).
